About the conference

Our one-day conference will exam what children’s right to food means in practice to children and young people. It will showcase best practice in communities addressing children’s food insecurity and poverty and will further highlight emerging and new research in children’s food insecurity and poverty.

We’re delighted that actress and Food Ambassador for the Children’s Future Food Inquiry, Dame Emma Thompson, will speak at the event. We’re also expecting contributions from Philip Alston, the UN Human Rights Council’s Special Rapporteur, Dr João Breda from the World Health Organisation, and Children and Young People’s Commissioner in Scotland, Bruce Adamson.

Young people, who have been involved in the Children’s Future Food Inquiry, will share their experience of being involved in the inquiry, their perspectives on food and update us on how their recommendations as set out in the report are being put into practice.

Who is this conference aimed at?

This event is open to anyone working in early, primary, secondary and higher education; residential care, social work or psychology; as well as the public sector, whether as policy-makers, community workers, nutritionists or suppliers.

It is a chance to make valuable connections with key players in policy and practice and share learning with practitioners from across Scotland and beyond.
