About Peas Please
This is a ground-breaking new initiative focused specifically on veg. Our consumption levels are declining. Peas Please aims to bring together farmers, retailers, fast food and restaurant chains, caterers, processors and government departments with a common goal of making it easier for everyone to eat veg.
Our diets are leading to high levels obesity, type 2 diabetes and other diet-related disease and we need to eat more veg. The project will explore the levers along the supply chain which have the potential to increase vegetable consumption in a sustainable manner. - Pleasure – making our veg delicious whenever we eat it and connecting us to where our veg comes from
- Producers –growing veg sustainably at all different scales
- Prices that work for producers and consumers
- Products – new ways of getting veg into what we buy and eat every day
- Placement – more prominence in shops and on menus, more places to buy it in towns and cities
To secure commitments from industry and government to improve the availability, acceptability (including convenience), affordability, and quality of the vegetable offer in shops, schools, fast food restaurants and beyond, and in turn stimulate increased vegetable consumption among the UK public, particularly children and those on a low income. These commitments will be made at summits in London (June 7 hosted by the London Produce Show), Wales (July) and Scotland (June 22).

Nourish Scotland is a Civil Society Organisation campaigning on food justice issues at a local, national, and international level. We believe that tasty and nutritious food should be accessible to all, and should treat workers and the environment fairly.
Food Sense Wales (FSW) is built on the foundations of Food Cardiff, one of the founding members of the Sustainable Food Cities Network. It aims to influence how food is produced and consumed in Wales through pioneering programmes such as Sustainable Food Cities, Peas Please, Food Power and most recently Food for Life Get Togethers. Food Sense Wales’ approach revolves around “advocacy by example”. It focuses on finding workable solutions through on the ground experience and citizen voice, and using these to advocate effectively for the changes needed to national policy, to ensure everyone in Wales receives their right to good food.
Belfast Food Network is tackling some of Belfast’s most pressing social, economic and environmental challenges including poverty, health inequalities, social isolation, low educational attainment, environmental damage and economic growth through food. BFN is a founding member of Sustainable Food Cities and since 2014 has established a broad network of 67 organisations that are taking a joined up approach to transforming our food culture and food system. The BFN helps people and places share challenges, explore practical solutions and develop best practice on key food issues.
Food NI provides a single promotional voice for Northern Ireland’s food and drink. We work to enhance the reputation of Northern Ireland’s food and drink through the Taste of Ulster and Taste the Greatness messages. We are a company limited by guarantee, formed voluntarily by a consortium of food sector representatives, to develop the positive identity for high quality food from Northern Ireland.
